During the time of Tu BiShvat in Israel people usually plant trees. However, we do not have the right temperatures for it during this time of the year so instead we can make a terrarium in which the plants feel good in room temperature without the need to water them. We also brought you a video on how to make a terrarium.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
1 plastic bottle of about 2 liters or a half liter bottle
A jar
half a cup of small pebbles
half a cup of potting soil
slow growing plants
1 small shovel
scissors
masking tape
water
PREPARATION:
1. Washout the plastic bottle thoroughly and ask an adult to cut the bottle with sharp scissors for you, approx. 12.5 cm down from the cap and 9 cm from the bottom of the bottle.
2. The middle part of the bottle will not be needed.
3. Place in the bottom half of the bottle or jar approx. 1.5 cm thick layer of pebbles.
4. Pour the flower soil over it.
5. Plant the plants in it.
6. Water the terrarium with a sprayer, but be careful not to get too much water in it.
7. Carefully place the top of the plastic bottle on top or screw the top of the mason bottle onto it.
8. Tape it shut. Since it’s sealed you won’t even have to water it just watch how the plants grow in it. The evaporating water condenses on the wall of the bottle, drains out and returns to the plant which can use it again and again. If you still see it starting to dry out just unscrew the cap and squirt a little water into it.
